what did we try not to do

This project THIS YEAR I WILL TRY NOT TO was created by Elliot Scott and Christopher Doyle (two designers I didn't previously know but will now be watching out for) in an attempt to defy the popularity of certain trends on the internet and challenge themselves as designers to do new things. To not just give in to what people are comfortable with and like.

Wholly admirable and I love it for it's truth, humor and the creator's abilities to make fun of themselves. I also feel kind of shamed because even though I recognize the need to break down the typical and expand our collective comfort bubbles...I still love the things that this publication (in a very manifesto way) declares avoidance of.

And I particularly like it when designers include their process (you can view the video on their site, but not embed). It's 28 pages printed on newsprint stock - only 1000 copies and for sale for AUD $10.00 (but plus $5 for shipping to the US)

this is so gorgeous.

i want to make this.

i want to have thought of this.

why is it that these sites are always so inspirational and simultaneously
so depressing and still we strive and strive and push ourselves to be?

(question without an answer)

what did we aspire: tavi!

ok so i know i'm way behind the times and all but in this world of mad crazy rushing hey-day all the time a girl can't be up to date on everything simultaneously. (or often in my case up to date on anything at all - ah well)

at any rate: i think i can declare my first real "girl crush" ahahhahahah apparently (according to google) i'm not the only girl blogger out there with a girl crush on her...

everyone (i don't know why i'm introducing her, i'm sure you all know her already)
meet tavi!!!
really the only reason i suddenly know who this amazing stylish pixie blogger who knows what she likes, what she wants and writes really entertaining, useful and inspiring posts is that she's totally the feature of the new LOVE magazine. information and (mock) cover pic courtesy of fashionista.

the girl doesn't care what anyone thinks, she loves what she loves - writes what she writes - is passionate and motivated. which i think is why she makes my aspire list.

what did we aspire: YELLENA

YELLENA

(discovered on DOODLAGE and desired to share (also a good link to click))

wow. such great work.

such intricate complex detailing in pen and ink in not-so-large sizes of 7.5" x 7.5" and 8" x 10" compositions. amazing focus, control and effort. each individual in their composition, shapes and lines but yet all clearly the cohesive work of one artist with a very distinctive, vibrant style. the colors, linework and patterns make my jaw drop and my mind spin. and they're such great creations for any kind of work. i could see these pieces on walls, on buildings, on apparel and accessories, book covers, posters - anything. i hope she gets picked up by some major company for a collaboration or is hired for some intensely high exposure freelance job. she would create the most psychedelic stores. just on her website (linked above) are some 81 pen and ink drawings and some 27 paintings. (i'm biased in my favor of the ink pieces) i wish i could post allll the images.

but that's why you should click through to her site. also has an etsy account YELLENA ETSY
