what did we revisit: i love you more than _________

so way back last year in august i posted about some Supermarket goods that i'd like and today i came back across one of those items while flipping through design: related.

turns out that this tote is actually one of the products of a greater project called "i love you more than _________" (you read the blank as "blank") run by paperwhite studio. anyone can go onto the site and submit their own "i love you more than ________" statements.

they ask you: "what's your measuring stick for love?"

"run by Laureen Moyal and Yuliya Gorlovetsky, in New York city’s lower east side. we began this project with a belief that you can never really evaluate the value of something unless you measure it up to something else. with all the answers that we have received, we know that you must agree. keep submitting, the answers make us smile."

sounds vaguely ironic to me since you can evaluate love without measuring, but there are some really cute answers though i think their heart graphic is a little corny...

some are silly. lots are stupid. most are deeply insider things. don't really know what i would submit if i did submit something - what about you?

i still want the tote and now i kind of want the shirt but only the cards are really within my price range (and i could easily print those myself). i'm such a sucker for mushy things.

what did we accessorize: artifacts by casey

artifact 001 / ring / plug / $200

artifact 002 / ring /socket / $170

artifacts by casey

so today i went into work (nylon) for the first time since i'd come back to ny (which really was only six days ago). and in the morning i really didn't have all that much to do so i was flipping through the latest nylon feb 2010 issue (with the vampire diaries stars on the cover) and came across this really cool jewelery designer. it motivates me to start wearing rings again since i stopped after i realized i kept bashing them up with all the art i was doing.

"I like making things that don't follow the traditional notion of what jewelry is supposed to be," says Brooklyn-based designer Casey Perez of her line, Artifacts by Casey. "People think it has to be precious and luxurious, but if my jewelry makes people stop to think for a moment, then I'm happy." (taken from the nylon article - can be found here)

the top two rings made from a plug and a socket in sterling silver are clearly meant to be bought for a couple, and i think it's a pretty innovative and cute idea. the one below is just fun. i would wear any of the three (now if only there wasn't that zero at the end of those prices...)

artifact 003 / ring / jaws / $140

what did we almost buy: kobraa blk snk flats

so i made a promise of sorts to myself on august 18th on the plane from hong kong to new york. now i'm not sure whether i made it because i was:
a) severely lacking sleep
b) had just read a book with a section about money matters and how to spend wisely and for God
c) completely shopped out from hong kong
d) mildly delusional
(and as always)
e) all of the above

it goes like this (i even wrote it down):
"i will not buy any articles of clothing for myself until 2010."

and now that i've written and published this on the web. it's out there. i'm accountable. to everyone in theory....

here are the shoes i almost almost almost bought today! $50 USD at steve madden plus 25% off so would have been (and still are) around $38 USD. (they're really called kobraa black snake.)

Supermarket is a site purposefully created "to connect you directly with designers and the great things they make."
so you can sell your work. you can buy other designers greeaat work.
or you can be like me and peruse the site for examples of excellent design and thought and wonder about buying something sometime and whether you should...

what did we want: oxfords...

IMG_9060

so i found this really really great pair of shoes today while randomly walking past stores killing time. off white (cream? light beige?) laced oxfords, slightly pointed toes with pinhole decoration and made of lamb leather...

i don't usually advocate the killing of innocent animals for clothes or fashion. but these were really soft, fit perfectly, were adorable and i could see myself wearing them with anything....

of course this all leads up to me saying i didn't buy them. they cost $716 HKD ($92.38 USD) (which is a really random number to me) which is usually too much for shoes for me. i've never bought shoes that expensive before. no really. i don't. i know that shoes are supposed to be an investment etc but i couldn't bring myself to do it. (also i didn't have that much money on me)

i'm still thinking about them and i would ask rather i should get them or not...but i don't know what answer i want...

what did we wear: threadless

"disbelief" by dan sheffield

threadless
is having a "back 2 cool" sale where a looot of shirts are going for $8, a lot going for $10 and a lot for $15 (USD) - basically everything is on sale. it's true.

for those of you who don't know. threadless is an online graphic design t-shirt company where allll the tshirts sold are designed and thought up by really cool artsy people in the community! there is an incredible amount of talent out there. really really.

i think i have maybe 8? 12? 15? of their shirts. : P so do my friends! two of my friends and i once gave them all out for christmas...i now buy less (because i have waaaaaaay too many tshirts) but once in a while am still tempted. they have an actual store in chicago where cool art is sold. threadless has gotten a LOT bigger and MORE popular over the years (i can't believe i'm old enough to say that and think i was around when it was "simpler"...)

they have great graphics, great typography, strong community development and the entire "threadless" concept and social network is still going strong. i will one day submit something (artists that have their shirts printed get money rewards!)
