it's endless. sugar on a stick decorated nicely.

or hello kitty if that's how you roll.

and even just a regular cake pop. : )

man. they're all so cute and not hard to make at all. perfect for absolutely any event with a little creativity and also perfect to make AT some sort of occasion. go wild with that edible icing pen.

what did we miss: LA

i recently returned from LA this past sunday evening and i still miss it.
partially, thanksgiving break was amazing simply because it was a break away from school, having to work, being on the computer, getting no sleep...stressing out...
but thanksgiving break was also amazing because i was in LA. and because of who i was in LA with.

it was great to get away from NYC. i love new york and i love manhattan still and i think i'm still a city girl - but i have to say that my three semesters at parsons in the city have worn away some of the love for new york. maybe it's just that right now in my life the city is associated with stress. and unending movement.

and LA is only associated with holiday. and good food. and sunny sunny warm weather. (and disneyland, go karting, more good food, dogs, video games, ben and his family...)

so yes. i miss LA and i mostly wish i wasn't here in NY right now. but that's okay. i believe it's alright for me to be in love with more than one city even if it does mean that my heart belongs in some way to four.

images my own - it was also nice to pull out the dslr

about food. about text.

busy of late. school started. work started.
been at nylon two days, been to all of my 6 classes (and two recitations) the other three days.

i make a pretty good sandwich
and a decent salad and for some reason have been eating a lot of eggplant.

i must be in the right major. because even when there are those around me feeling bored, feeling restless, wanting to learn something else...i really do love my classes. and my teachers. and what i will be learning. i love type and i want to be good at it.

i get the feeling i'll be working towards that. i also feel incredibly fortunate to be at nylon.
no part of me foresaw this whole summer and fall internship thing going down.

i have no appropriate commentary for "sucker."
i wouldn't mind a lollipop but i had mochi tonight and a sample of cereal milk ice cream.

what did we eat: 雞蛋仔

i love 雞蛋仔 sooooo much
this is partially why i miss hong kong so much when i'm not here
and then i remember the crazy humid heat
"雞蛋仔" pretty much means chicken eggs in english
it's simply batter - baked into a round waffle of "eggs"
crisp on the outside and chewy inside! $24 HKD for two ($3 USD)

what did we eat: OLIVE

tonight - july 12 - i had dinner with my parents on the rooftop of ELEMENTS,
1 austin road west, kowloon, HK

a classy mall filled with expensive brand names i'm not sure who buys. if you care to, you can window shop lanvin, valentino, cartier, piaget, tiffany and co, chanel, prada until your feet are sore.

the mall also boasts a cinema (the grand), an ice skating rink and a pretty cool supermarket (HK's largest organic and natural one) called ThreeSixty (and i say it's cool in part because they're one of splash's clients (where i work fyi))

we ate at:
OLIVE
R008 at elements
t#: 852.2810.8585
open M - S 12:00 - 3:00, 6:00 - 10:30, sunday brunch 12:00 - 5:00
daily happy hour 5:30 - 7:30
middle eastern cusine, chef greg malouf

IMG_8745

we started off with an appetizer of "Olive’s Mezza" including hummus bi tahini, cheesy Fatima’s fingers, baba ganoush, jou jou bread and olives roasted with fennel

IMG_8750

and two main course dishes: the first which was a Duck Bistayeea - Morocco’s celebrated pie filled with sweet spiced duck, egg and almonds on a minted cabbage salad

IMG_8748

and the second a: vegetarian moussaka with a pumpkin, chickpea and pomegranate salad

IMG_8753

and our meal ended with a burnt honey panna cotta with candied strawberries and pine nuts

it may not seem like it was a lot of food, but my family doesn't eat very much to begin with, only the three of us since char's in chicago, and it's quite rich fare. i particularly liked the duck, i've always liked hummus and baba ganoush (my fondness of mushy food continues... or hatred of biting and chewing? not sure) and the vegetable dish was very sweet and quite unique. the panna cotta split between the three of us was just the right addition of sweetness to round off the meal. the environment is very nice and since we sat from 6:30 to 8:30 enjoying our dinner, we were first to arrive and thus had a nice quiet restaurant to ourselves, by the time we left the place was beginning to fill with about 10 - 14 occupied tables on both levels.

(description of dishes taken from Olive's menu, prices not included here but available on their website)

what did we eat: dessert - tai wai

preston, jeanie, ariana and i topped off our saturday night lazy night in with dessert in tai wai after which there was pouring rain.

jeanie and ariana split the following: cookies and cream ice cream in a pastry $18 HKD (i think?) ($2.32 USD) / chocolate ice sheets with mango "stars" on top $26 HKD ($3.35 USD)

i had myself a soy pudding (?) "dul fu fa" with yellow sugar $11 HKD ($1.41 USD)

and preston opted for the aloe apple ice drink $12 HKD ($1.54 USD)

to me, there is nothing quite like eastern desserts

as all of you may know, i'm a proudly pronounced foodie. i'm fairly certain it runs in my family.
one of my favorite cuisines? japanese food.
so here are some photos (i shamelessly photograph food i eat) of sushi (寿司!!) that i've managed to eat within my first ten days in hk.

what did we drink: 奶茶

IMG_8457

today, june 24, i revisited suzuki cafe (a cute restaurant for western dishes that have a bit more originality than some - also great desserts and coffee drinks but for a bit more than they should cost) in langham place, mong kok (HK) with a friend.
and i remembered how much i love milk tea(奶茶)not that i had really forgotten. but nothing makes me feel at home more than this drink.

i don't think i've mentioned i'm happy to be home in hong kong again.

what did we eat: dessert

nikko hotel dessert

delicious dessert during afternoon tea buffet at nikko hotel hong kong on father's day

happy father's day daddy!

starting left going clockwise, vanilla pudding, bread pudding, mango pudding, creme brulee
(i'm aware that all four are basically puddings...but different types and all equally yummy! i realize i have a predilection for foods that do not require much chewing....hm)

super delicious cupcakes. my sister charlotte and i shared the salted caramel and the strawberry rhubarb. at 3.50 for one and 39.50 a dozen it's not tooo outrageous but i will say it's out there. (a special treat for only special occasions - in my case, maybe once year?)

the cake part isn't all that special but the filling inside is seriously good (in my opinion) plus the store is really cute and tucked away in the chicago equivalent of the ny upper east side (lincoln park area?) and the cupcakes just look so gorgeous (only foodies like me and my sis really call food gorgeous...)

Housing a delectable array of cakes, individual pastries, cookies, chocolates, savories and confections, our New York City retail store evokes images of fine European pastry shops."

so - i have yet to eat here....but it loooooks amaaaaazing. the entire store's goods look so delicious.
staring at this photo makes me salivate.
yummy tiny chocolate and berry and caramelly sweet cakes that must be intensely fattening but probably a wild trip for your taste buds.

someone should go there even if it's not me.

what you eat

i've discovered that having complete choice over what you eat is a surprising freedom and responsibility to yourself. i can choose to learn to cook or i can choose to make soup out of a can every night. the former still gives a sense of personal achievement despite its necessity now while the latter is instant gratification with an msg lashback. i can choose to snack or not snack, satisfy midnight cravings or not because now what my kitchen is stocked with falls completely in my hands. it's a strange power.
