what did we catch up

(#300 including non-published posts hah)

things going on with me:

i left nylon magazine the week before finals...

and i currently work in this building on the 7th floor. for the greater part of the week.

ive been listening to these albums,

and spending all my web surfing time on google reader.

i've been munching on teddy grahams and beef jerky for snacks. (not together and i do continue to eat real meals)

and im going to a sunny sunny place this weekend! (illustration by ben javens for 8th continent soy milk via lovely packaging)

what did we accessorize: artifacts by casey

artifact 001 / ring / plug / $200

artifact 002 / ring /socket / $170

artifacts by casey

so today i went into work (nylon) for the first time since i'd come back to ny (which really was only six days ago). and in the morning i really didn't have all that much to do so i was flipping through the latest nylon feb 2010 issue (with the vampire diaries stars on the cover) and came across this really cool jewelery designer. it motivates me to start wearing rings again since i stopped after i realized i kept bashing them up with all the art i was doing.

"I like making things that don't follow the traditional notion of what jewelry is supposed to be," says Brooklyn-based designer Casey Perez of her line, Artifacts by Casey. "People think it has to be precious and luxurious, but if my jewelry makes people stop to think for a moment, then I'm happy." (taken from the nylon article - can be found here)

the top two rings made from a plug and a socket in sterling silver are clearly meant to be bought for a couple, and i think it's a pretty innovative and cute idea. the one below is just fun. i would wear any of the three (now if only there wasn't that zero at the end of those prices...)

artifact 003 / ring / jaws / $140

what did we test

today at nylon the web director had me test two of OPI's "body cremes"
- "coconut melon" and "mango" flavored.

it may in fact be giving me a headache. oh well.
my hands are at least smooth and semi-moisturied...

i don't think i'd actually recommend the product...but here's a link if you're interested.

me: mhmm
in other news
i smell like an artificially flavored tropical smoothie
12:14 PM benjimak: hmm?
why?
me: the editor had me test two "body cremes"
benjimak: i see..
me: "coconut melon" and "mango" flavored
yeah
benjimak: that's weird hah
what's coconut melon

what did we make ourselves: MIU MIU SOCKS

so this is the third place im posting this so for those who check my twitter/fb this is redundant now - or if you go after this...(which i advocate). or as my intro to visual culture class would say: "revealing it as an addition to the public sphere conversation that is formed whenever any individuals contribute ideas on things of general interest" (habermas, hah)

i spent wednesday afternoon at NYLON making imitation miu miu socks after the fall runway hoisery. i have to say im pretty proud of my work....

image of the original miu miu version ($425) which we copied in our DIY

model lexi lewtan - sock on her left leg is my handiwork - alexandra hoffman (web editorial intern worked on the other one)

pretty upclose sequin clusters! stars and circles, studs and sprinkles in pink, silver, gold....

NYLON's story on it

what did we register

today started off alright: registration went well overall. next semester should be exciting.

in other news: why not follow me on twitter? www.twitter.com/whatdidwe

and in more miscellaneous information: these tees are pretty cool. id like one / wear one if given to me / potentially purchase if it didn't cost $30 DIM MAK PAINT BY NUMBER

(oh and i did the header graphic for them for nylon today. NYLON's take. (which is how i heard of) i should put some of those graphics up sometime...)

what did we spot: SATC

today sex and the city is being filmed in soho.
parked on prince street between greene and w. broadway are all the cast trailers. walking to and from the park on 6th ave and prince on my lunch break i managed to see all four of the stars (walk past them in close proximity...): kristin davis, sarah jessica parker, cynthia nixon and kim catrall (in that order)

today i love the fact that i work at nylon AND that the nylon office is where it is.

hah. i feel like i finally have a legit answer to the question i always get asked because i happen to go to school in nyc. "have you seen any celebrities?" yes. yes i have.

(oh and i know i'm crazy but these are the outfits: kristin davis: emerald green sleeveless very ruffly dress, sarah jessica parker: just spaghetti strap and leggings, cynthia nixon: patterned sleeveless summer dress, kim catrall: jeweled necklace and bright light blue sleeveless v neck dress)

what did we peruse: codes combine

on monday while scanning pages of nylon korea i came across this ad for a korean clothing company called codes combines with some fairly eye catching outfits (in my opinion) and while their site is pretty cool looking and appears easy to browse...very few links actually generate images on the screen. (hence screenshots of their intro images)
it's a strange thing.

but what i could find looks pretty good to me.

what did we watch: the september issue

just watched the september issue with six other girls from parsons and one girl from FIT. general conclusion? we love grace coddington. it's true.

but i have to admit. i also love anna. both anna wintour and grace are such strong, stubborn, genius women. the former has incredible management skills, the ability to organize, to be decisive, to be witty, is intelligent, creative, and very very capable of everything her job entails. the latter has mind blowing styling abilities, is an imaginative romantic to the fullest extent, knows how to consciously think out what works well and looks the best but also simply has instinctive intuitive taste that is 100% reliable.

i also loved seeing the forming on the september issue of amercian vogue (in brief because the almost 6 month process is condensed into a 90 minute film) from start to finish and all the photoshoots, obstacles and arrangements that took place during it's creation. it's an incredbly daunting task and unbelievably complex and practically scary and intimidating from my point of view. the idea of putting together that issue every year and putting all that passion and energy into it is difficult to comprehend.

my fascination with and desire to be in the fashion and magazine industry grows.

(good thing i got that fall nylon internship then)

what did we wear: NYLON+NIKE KICKS

NYLON + NIKE KICKS = SUPER SUMMER FUN

i would like these to stomp around in. to run and jump and show off my feet in. and i'm not a big day-glo / bright color girl but these would be so much fun and so summer for me.
